Fixed blade knives
(1848)Among the most widely used cold weapons today are fixed blade knives of various purposes. Fixed knives can be longer, more massive and more laborious. Before choosing, it is necessary to be aware of which activity and under what conditions it will be used. It is necessary to focus on quality materials, whether on steel used for the blade, or a handle made of natural or more modern materials and also on a scabbard for comfortable carrying. Knife scabbards are an important part, they are necessary to complement fixed knives.
Knives made of quality steel, a very broad topic, it is certainly not true that mild steel is worse and hard is better. Compared to folding knives, the fixed knife blade is more durable, especially if it has a full tang, i.e. it is made of one piece of steel. The knife should be able to sharpen well when used in the field, easy to maintain, it should not lose its properties in extreme conditions such as frost. The handle, made of any material, must fit in your hands and should not slip even if the hand is greasy or wet.
Categories of fixed knives:
- Hunting knives - more robust and, if necessary, longer knives, can be used when hunting the wild animal, for ripping, throwing out, skinning. Because they are classified as the work knives, they can be used for any work in the forest, slicing food or the construction of a shelter.
- Fishing knives - filleting knives for processing a caught fish, or fixed fishing knives for slicing, making a fire and other activities in nature.
- Mushroom knives - sufficient smaller fixed knives, larger ones have a brush for cleaning mushrooms.
- Damascus knives - will be appreciated by collectors and every hunter will be happy to brag about them.
- Tourist knives - for trips and stays in nature. You can choose any size of blade, smaller and lighter fixed knives are more suitable for high-altitude hiking and climbing.
- Survival knives - solid, often large, to be reliable in any situation. If we lack an axe, shovel, saw in nature, this knife should support all tools. The advantage is that a sharpener and a firestarter are included in the scabbard to start a fire.
- Army knives - combat knives are also a close contact weapon. These knives are not only intended for combat, they must also be used for slicing food, cutting branches in the case of making a fire and building a shelter, or digging when missing a shovel. The scabbard is usually adapted to wear on a belt, it can be attached to a uniform, backpack or leg.
- Tactical knives - this is a more versatile concept, similar principles apply to military knives, variable holsters including.
- Carambit knives - it's a curved knife with an eye at the end of the handle. It resembles the claw of a predator, which was apparently a model for this knife. In the past, this knife was used in agriculture, today special units can be equipped with such a knife, it's used in various martial arts, designed for defense.
- and many other categories.
All you have to do is choose the right knife with a fixed blade for you.
