The Helle company can trace the origin of these knives back to 1947, when we made the first scout knife with a red marking. The current designs with symbols of a girl and a boy in traditional scout uniforms date back to 1971.
The knife was designed and is still made with two main goals. First, even though it is intended for use by a child, it should be a reliable tool. This means it has a sharp blade and an ergonomically shaped handle suitable for smaller hands.
Secondly, it should be safe. Double-sided protection prevents the hands from slipping onto the blade, and a sheath with a fastening button ensures that the knife stays in place after use.
However, it is always important to remember that the most important safety measure is proper training - children should be taught how to handle and respect the knife as a tool. Therefore, the knife should be used under the supervision of an adult. It is important for children to follow safety rules and take care of the knife. In addition, they should be taught not only how, but also where to use it - especially in nature and in the presence of adults.
